THE HERITAGE OF THE PARK MAKES IT AN IMPORTANT PART OF MODERN DAY ABU DHABI

Mushrif Park is one of the largest historic urban parks in Abu Dhabi. It was originally opened in 1982, exclusively for ladies and children.

The park’s central location on 15th Street, between Airport Road and Karamah Street, reinforced its position as a community icon for generations of Abu Dhabi natives and residents. The new name, “Mushrif Central Park” was chosen to reflect this position at the heart of the community, both geographically and historically.

In an effort to maintain the originality of the historic park, it was decided to retain the location of the old park entrance and the jogging trail, which people used for over 25 years. The jogging trail was also maintained throughout the construction phase, with people continuing to use it during the entire redevelopment period without any interruption.

The restoration of the park’s natural resources was an important aspect of its redevelopment. One of the park’s most valuable assets was 850 naturally grown mature trees. The decision was made to pass on the benefits of this living legacy to the coming generations by retaining this natural treasure. Accordingly, the park’s development team embarked on an ambitious programme to salvage its old trees and achieved a record success rate that has set a benchmark for similar endeavours.
